how it works

At urban hanger we aim to leave the smallest carbon footprint possible when conducting our operations. Our goal is to eventually be a 100% organic cleaner. In the meantime, we have taken several initiatives to “Go Green,” and have several more in development.

  • Hydrocarbon Dry Cleaning Machines: We have phased out the use of perchloroethylene (“perc”) based dry-cleaning machines. Our machines use a non-toxic organic solvent and unlike perc, there are no known health hazards associated with its usage and no residual odors left on your clothing. Perc is used by approximately 90% of all drycleaners in the US, whereas around only 7% of drycleaners currently use Hydrocarbon machines.
  • High Efficiency Washers & Dryers: Our machines are all commercial grade, high capacity, and high efficiency. We use sophisticated computer systems to regulate the amount of water and detergent used on each load, so that we minimize our product and energy consumption.
  • Bio-Degradable Laundry Detergent: We use a phosphate-free, biodegradable detergent for our bulk laundry. We purchase this detergent in large bulk orders to minimize packaging waste and the energy consumption associated with shipping.
  • Bio Degradable Plastic Bags [coming soon!]: We use biodegradable plastic bags on all of our hanging garments. These can be safely disposed of in any common trash receptacle.
  • Full-Scale Recycling Program: At all of our drop-off locations, we provide recycling stations for customers to return their wire hangers and garment covers to ensure that these get properly disposed of.
